Summary

Dr. Fleetwood completed medical school at University of Manitoba and did Neurosurgery Residency at University of Manitoba and University of Calgary, completing training and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) fellowship examinations in 2000. Thereafter, he completed clinical fellowships in Cerebrovascular Surgery and Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Stanford University in California.

Before moving to Victoria in 2012, he practiced in Halifax for more than 10 years where he was Director of Cerebrovascular Surgery at Halifax Infirmary and co-director of the Atlantic Stereotactic Radiosurgery program. He was promoted from Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University to Associate Professor in 2010. On a sabbatical in 2011, he did a clinical fellowship at the Centre for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery in Sydney, Australia with a focus on minimally invasive intracranial neuro-oncology procedures.

He has reviewed abstracts for many meetings and manuscripts for several journals, organized several clinical conferences, delivered lectures across the country and been involved in 8 national or international clinical research trials.

Administratively, he is President of the Canadian Neurosurgical Society and a member of the RCPSC Neurosurgery Specialty Committee. He was President of the Section of Neurosurgery for Doctors Nova Scotia (2004 – 2012). He is currently an Examiner for the annual RCPSC Neurosurgery Exams and sits on the exam nucleus committee.
