Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring Fellowship

Number of Position: 1 – 2

Duration: 1 year

Location: Vancouver General Hospital, Vancouver, Canada

Overview

Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) is a leading tertiary referral centre providing specialized medical care across British Columbia and beyond. Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM) Program at VGH offers comprehensive IONM services to a wide range of surgical specialties including Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Spine Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Cardiovascular Surgery.

This fellowship is designed to provide advanced, hands-on training in IONM for physicians and eligible neuroscientists seeking to enhance their expertise in neuromonitoring and improve patient outcomes during surgery. Fellows will gain extensive exposure to both commonly used and advanced IONM techniques, and will be actively involved in monitoring and interpretation during a variety of complex surgical procedures. Some case examples include resection of brain, brainstem and spinal cord tumours, cerebral revascularization for Moyamoya disease, MVD for cranial nerves, complex spinal deformity corrections, repair of descending aortic aneurysms, and selected paediatric neurosurgical procedures.

In addition to clinical training, fellows are expected to deliver presentations on selected IONM topics, participate in teaching sessions for EEG/IOM technologists, surgical residents, and other medical staff and are encouraged to contribute to research projects related to IONM.
